Most people are familiar with the Latin expression compos mentis, meaning of sound mind and capable of sound judgement.

The name Summentis draws on that familiar idea. Mentis relates to mind, thought and judgement. Summa carries the idea of the highest or fullest expression. Together, they capture the ambition behind Summentis: better thinking, sound judgement and intelligence applied to real business problems.

Founded with an owner's perspective

Summentis was founded by Rodger Williams, an entrepreneur first and a finance and business leader second.

Having spent much of his working life building businesses as well as leading finance and transformation functions, Rodger understands that running a business looks very different from the owner's side of the table. Commercial decisions involve customers, people, cash, risk, technology, opportunity and often incomplete information.

That perspective sits at the heart of Summentis. Our role is not simply to analyse a business from the outside. It is to understand what the leadership team is trying to achieve, challenge thinking where necessary, bring evidence and commercial judgement to the discussion, and help turn decisions into practical action.

Rodger brings more than 20 years of experience spanning entrepreneurship, commercial finance, financial leadership, business transformation, systems improvement and senior management. Where an engagement requires specialist capability, Summentis can also bring in carefully selected expertise across areas such as data, business analysis and technology.
